Kohima: Lions Club of Kohima held the Lions International Peace Poster Contest on October 3 at Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School. Students from across the region gathered under the theme Harmony in Humanity. Over 40 children aged 11 to 13 took part in the event. They represented 21 schools including Assam Rifles Public School, Model Higher Secondary School, and JO Foundation Inclusive School.
Bejava Thonglü from Little Flower School won the top spot. She took home a Rs 10,000 cash prize and a citation. Sarah Lhoungu of G. Rio School finished second, earning Rs 5,000. Sophia Gurung from Northfield School placed third, winning Rs 2,000. Judges evaluated entries based on composition and how well the art linked to the theme.
Chief guest and MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso praised the participants for their talent. He told the students to be bridges instead of walls. "Peace is when you feel good and safe to be in the midst of different people," he said. Rhutso challenged the young attendees to act as engines of peace within their homes and communities.
Lions Club president Er. Tsalitemsu Jamir called the posters a collective cry for peace. He noted that the best entry will advance to an international competition. The global winner receives $5,000 and a trip to the USA for an awards ceremony. Max Menuse O Marius chaired the event, while Akhrienuo Kire delivered the vote of thanks.
