Kohima: Twenty-nine students gathered at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School in Kohima this Sunday. They came to sit for the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics 2026. The test serves as the first step for the Mathematical Olympiad Programme. It clears a path for winners to eventually represent India at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
Students traveled from three different institutions to attend the exam. Twenty-two candidates represented the host school, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School. The remaining students arrived from Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School and Kendriya Vidyalaya. Organizers enforced strict protocols for seating, invigilation, and security. An official IOQM representative monitored the site to ensure test integrity.
The pressure tested the participants. Kekhriezhanuo Rutsa of Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School noted the value of the competition. She said, "Honestly, this examination helped me a lot, especially by building up knowledge from the basic Mathematics."
Others faced a steep climb. Avina Zhimo from Don Bosco called the test tricky. She dealt with problems ranging from algebra to geometry. The school maintains its push to boost student interest in high-level academic competition.
