Guwahati: The State Election Commission is moving forward with by-elections for three Bodoland Territorial Council constituencies. Officials kicked off the voter roll revision process for Kajalgaon, Darangajuli, and Rowta. No polling dates exist yet.

Draft electoral rolls arrive November 7. Voters have until November 21 to file claims or objections. The commission set November 27 as the deadline to clear those disputes. They will release the final voter lists on November 30.

The commission follows Rule 11 of the Bodoland Territorial Council Election Rules, 2004. They set January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date for eligibility. The Returning Officer will also publish the list of polling stations under Rule 12(1). State officials already notified the list of Election Officers, Returning Officers, and Assistant Returning Officers.

The seats sit empty due to recent turnover. Kajalgaon MCLA Paniram Brahma resigned after winning the Sidli-Chirang Assembly seat in the 2026 Assam elections. Rowta MCLA Charan Boro also stepped down after he was re-elected from Mazbat and "inducted into the state Cabinet." The Darangajuli seat opened following the death of BTC Deputy Speaker and BJP leader Bijit Gwra Narzary in August 2026.
