Guwahati: The Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Manch (BJSM) is readying for a mass movement. The organization issued a firm warning on Thursday regarding the alleged occupation of protected tribal land in Mojabari village, located in the Sidli Revenue Circle of Assam. BJSM working president Daorao Dekhreb Narzary demanded that the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) protect the land rights of indigenous communities immediately.

The dispute centers on land declared a tribal belt under a 1947 notification. Indira Basumatary and 24 other petitioners provided the BTC with several court documents, including a Gauhati High Court order from October 6, 2026. The group also cited prior mandates from PIL No. 78/2012, which addressed the removal of ineligible occupants under the Assam Land Policy of 2019 and the Assam Land and Revenue Regulation of 1886. The Manch insists authorities must verify all land records, including pattas and transfer documents, to clear out unlawful occupants.

"The BTC authorities must demonstrate their commitment through concrete, lawful and time-bound action," the group stated. They want a written response detailing the steps taken within 15 days of receiving their representation. Failure to act will trigger democratic protests, including public meetings and demonstrations.

The organization claims administrative delay is preventing justice for tribal landholders. While they emphasize that their planned campaign is peaceful and strictly constitutional, they will not stay quiet. The BJSM urged the Assam government and BTC officials to stop dragging their feet. They expect full compliance with court directives to secure these protected tribal belts.
