Guwahati: The Bodoland Territorial Council cracked down on cattle trade this Saturday. Officials blocked all cattle sales to areas outside the territorial jurisdiction. The move targets markets in Gossaigaon and Parbatjhora. This follows persistent reports of livestock being smuggled into Bangladesh via local trading hubs. Chief Executive Member Hagrama Mohilary led the Executive Council meeting where the directive was signed.
Market committees now carry the burden of enforcement. The council threatened to shut down any market that fails to follow the new rules. Council leaders claim these measures will clean up the region. During the session, the council addressed internal administrative shifts as well. They are currently reviewing the status of secretaries across 420 Village Councils Development Committees. The council expects to fill 390 secretary posts within the next three days.
Forest Department appointments are also under review. The council issued a strict ban on political signage at the main entrance of the BTC Secretariat. Authorities are removing all symbols and emblems, including those belonging to the All Bodo Students' Union. Officials stated this is part of a wider effort to "strengthen administrative functioning and regulate activities within the BTC region."
