Guwahati: The Bodoland Territorial Council Legislative Assembly passed a Rs 1,58,831.32 lakh budget for the 2026-27 financial year on July 30. BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary presented the plan. It clears funding for education, healthcare, agriculture, and road infrastructure. The council remains focused on local growth.
Budget allocations include Rs 90,000 lakh for Consolidated SOPD grants, Rs 20,000 lakh for Bodoland Accord infrastructure, and Rs 20,000 lakh for centrally sponsored schemes. Additional funds cover administrative grants, ex gratia payments for martyrs, and a new BTC Guest House in Chennai. Mohilary emphasized the government's priorities. "The BTC government is committed to creating better educational opportunities and improving public healthcare services throughout the region," he stated.
Education initiatives see the Bodofa Super-50 programme expanding into the UN Brahma Free UPSC, APSC, NEET and JEE Coaching Programme. Top students will receive cash rewards under the Martyr Sujit Narzary Merit Scholarship Scheme. Officials confirmed that 554 contractual science and mathematics teachers will keep their jobs. Meanwhile, health officials report a shortfall of 150 doctors and 400 paramedical staff, with 150 GNM nurses set for appointment after Independence Day.
Mohilary also launched the Chief Relief Fund at the Assembly Building in Kokrajhar. The fund provides aid for education, healthcare, and disaster recovery. Entrepreneur Md Ilias Ansari donated Rs 5 lakh to start the effort. Executive Member Lakhi Das added Rs 1 lakh. Public donations are accepted through an official portal. The council is also reviewing compensation for tribal rights activists involved in the 1980s movement.
