Imphal: Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur toured three relief camps in Thoubal district on Saturday. He inspected living conditions and rehabilitation progress for families fleeing ethnic violence that erupted on May 3, 2023. Displaced residents from Moreh, Serou, Sugnu, and Churachandpur reported losing their homes to arson during the long-standing conflict.

The delegation visited the Wangjing Sports Complex, Lamding Higher Secondary School, and the Rice Research Station in Khangabok. Special Secretary of Home Ahanthem Subash, Thoubal Deputy Commissioner Yumnam Robita, and Superintendent of Police Manoj Prabhakar joined the tour. Residents expressed the strain of life in temporary shelters. Families are now turning to small-scale vocational projects like candle-making and craft weaving to gain financial independence.

Students and guardians flagged major gaps in educational resources and frequent interruptions to schooling. Thakur pushed officials to fix these logistical hurdles. He ordered local administrators to expedite grievance redressal and improve basic facilities immediately. He told departmental leaders: "Speed up grievance redressal and address the problems raised by camp residents."
