Imphal: The Kuki Civic Action Committee (KCAC) condemned the burning of Sojamphai village in Manipur’s Tamenglong district. They blame Naga armed groups, specifically the NSCN-IM and ZUF-K, for the assault. The committee reports a pattern of targeted violence against Kuki-Zo civilians. Twenty-nine villages have faced looting, burning, or attacks. This violence caused the displacement of over 2,000 people. Twenty-six people are dead.

Jacob Lenminthang, Chief Coordinator for the KCAC, stated that these groups may be covertly sponsored to break the community's political resolve. The KCAC has no concrete evidence for this claim. The group demands the immediate deployment of neutral central security forces in vulnerable districts. They want legal action against the attackers. They also insist on compensation and relief for the displaced families.

The group slammed the Centre and the Manipur government for their silence. Despite constant protests and submitted memorandums, the authorities failed to act. The KCAC maintains that the state has the military power to stop the fighting. “The Government of India possesses the administrative capability, military strength and law enforcement machinery to swiftly contain this violence,” the committee said.

The KCAC reiterated its push for a separate Union Territory with a legislature. They claim this status is necessary for the long-term safety of the Kuki-Zo people. “The Kuki-Zo people have endured intolerable suffering while upholding democratic means. The Government of India must act decisively before the situation devolves further,” the group stated.
