Imphal: Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho wants his cabinet colleague Nemcha Kipgen to end the violence against Naga civilians. He claims she must make her husband stop the ongoing attacks. Seven people are dead. The victims include a Nepali citizen killed in ambushes across Kamjong, Kangpokpi, and Ukhrul districts.
Dikho spoke during a climate event held by the Department of Environment and Climate Change. He addressed a joint statement from Kuki civil society groups demanding Kipgen return to work in Imphal. The state government wants her back at her desk. However, Dikho insisted that she address the bloodshed first. He specifically told her: "Ask your husband to stop."
Tensions between Naga and Kuki communities remain at a breaking point. Naga lawmakers previously demanded Kipgen lose her cabinet seat. They cited alleged ties between her husband and the Kuki National Front-President, an armed group currently under a Suspension of Operations pact. These accusations stem from the June abduction and murder of six Naga villagers in Leilon Vaiphei.
Naga leaders claim the Kuki National Army-President and other local militant groups carried out these attacks. They allege that Kipgen’s husband played a direct role in the killings and the subsequent mutilation of bodies. These claims remain unverified by independent investigation.
