Imphal: Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen visited nine Naga-dominated villages in her Kangpokpi Assembly constituency to demand an end to local hostilities. She pushed Kuki and Naga residents to reject violence and commit to peaceful coexistence. The outreach occurred in Yaikongpao, a Thangal Naga village. It served as the final event of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan 2026, which celebrates Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaching 25 years in public service.
Residents from Daili, Phyapou, Yaikongpao, Tumnoupokpi, Liyai, Kalapahar, Liyai Kongpao, Thanamba, and Mahika gathered for the meeting. Kipgen argued that harmony is the only path toward a stable future. Invoking her Christian faith, she told the crowd: "If we cannot live peacefully on earth, how can we expect to live peacefully in heaven?" She warned that hatred only ruins families and harms coming generations.
Kipgen pointed to the local economy as a sign that peace remains possible. She noted that people still travel to the Kangpokpi district headquarters to shop side-by-side, even while other regions face movement restrictions. The Deputy Chief Minister promised continued development work for the district.
The event included the distribution of G.I. sheets and water storage tanks. Officials also ran sessions on the Lakhpati Didi initiative, the Manipur Women Empowerment Scheme, and general entrepreneurship. Village chiefs, khullakpas, and representatives from the BJP Sadar Hills and Kangpokpi mandals attended the proceedings.
A Naga community leader used the forum to address the Deputy Chief Minister directly about development concerns. He urged his neighbors to stop labeling each other by tribe. "Let us abandon the mindset of 'you are Kuki' and 'you are Naga'. Such divisions will only distance us from one another," he said. The leader expects these meetings to help rebuild trust between the administration and the public.
