Imphal: A 17-year-old student named Nk. Wiphenbou was killed on Monday in the Tamenglong district of Manipur. The attack occurred between 10:00 am and 10:30 am while the boy was heading to school. Naga village volunteers discovered his body along a narrow path near Upper Nkou and Malek village in the Tamei subdivision. He was the son of Nk. Maihinlakbou of Nkou Naga village.
Local sources blame Kuki militants for the violence. This killing follows a pattern of recent attacks between Naga and Kuki communities in Tamenglong, Kangpokpi, and the Noney–Tamenglong border. Over 40 people have died in these clashes since February. The Working Committee of the Joint Tribes Council condemned the event as a barbaric act of terrorism.
The group issued a blistering statement regarding the perpetrators. "These outfits, masquerading as signatories to the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, have once again unmasked themselves as merchants of death, terror, and narco-terrorism," the JTC said. Officials now demand that the state and central governments pursue justice and protect Naga settlements. Police and district authorities have yet to provide a full report on the shooting.
