Imphal: The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) inspected L. Sanoi College in Nambol on November 7. They found a school failing its students. The team arrived at 11:30 am to find the Principal missing. Only 36 of the 82 teachers were on campus. A mere 11 staff members showed up on time. Roughly 900 students are enrolled, but few attended classes.
The group noted that only the Geography Department held regular sessions. Many classrooms stayed locked. Laboratory facilities were inadequate and the library lacked usable books. The college has not employed a librarian since the 1997-98 academic year. This gap has left the facility unmanaged for decades.
The college recently earned a reputation as one of Manipur's best institutions and received a Rs. 5 lakh cash prize. DESAM questioned these honors given the state of the campus. They said these conditions raised serious doubts about the school. "DESAM maintained that colleges must provide quality education and adequate facilities rather than merely receive recognition, stressing that students are the future of the State."
The organization demanded that authorities fix staff shortages and infrastructure issues. They also pushed for vocational courses to improve job prospects. DESAM insists that schools must prioritize learning over prestige.
