Imphal: Students from Meitei, Kuki, and Naga backgrounds filled the Tangkhul Baptist Church in Imphal on November 4. They sang for harmony. The event, titled A Hymn for Peace, tackled the ethnic mistrust fracturing their home state. Needy Home Academy and Sorshia Christian College hosted the gathering, packing the schedule with dramas, testimonies, and choral performances.
Dr. Atom Sunil Singh, director of Sorshia Christian College, noted the event drew its spirit from Mapao Zingtun in Kangpokpi district. Students there keep living and studying together regardless of the ongoing violence. Organizers argue this proves coexistence works even when geographical borders and hatred try to pull people apart. They claim society must shield the youth from inherited fear. As the organizers stated, "The experience of the educational community offers a powerful reminder that coexistence remains possible even amid conflict, mistrust and geographical separation."
The event featured a message from 107-year-old evangelist Rev. R. Ayui and a speech by NHA Chairman Dr. R. Chance. This gathering follows a history of similar efforts. The Times of India reported in January 2025 that Meitei and Kuki children at Needy Home Academy continued to play and sing together despite the crisis. In December 2025, these institutions and the Mapao Zingtun Village Authority held a Unity in Diversity program. That effort brought Meitei, Kuki, Naga, and Pangal students together through various cultural displays.
