Imphal: Restoring trust is the only path forward for Manipur. The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) gathered academicians, students, and leaders on July 28 to hammer out solutions for the state’s ongoing unrest. The event took place at the Manipur Institute of Management Studies under the title Reshaping the Political Upheaval in Manipur: Issues and Challenges.
Conflict has gripped the region for over three years. FOCS spokesperson Puram Rakesh warned that continued instability drags the state backward. He noted that current measures, specifically buffer zones and movement restrictions, have damaged inter-community relations. Rakesh stated, "Rebuilding trust between different communities remains the most important step towards ending the conflict."
The discourse examined the social, historical, and economic roots of the crisis. Participants aimed to find practical ways to reinforce unity and preserve the state’s identity. FOCS plans to use the resolutions from this meeting to guide future peace-building efforts. The organization will keep facilitating dialogue between policymakers and community leaders to reach a reconciliation.
