Former UNLF Chief Demands Unity to Restore Manipur Peace

Imphal: Former United National Liberation Front chairman Ningthemcha Sanayaima pushed for statewide unity this week. He wants Manipur's communities to bridge their divides. Sanayaima spoke at a Thursday event held at Lamyanba Shanglen in Imphal's Palace Compound. The South East Asia Human Rights Association hosted the talk. It focused on the 77-year anniversary of India annexing the region in 1949.

Sanayaima believes the date is a chance to review the state's history. He argued that ongoing conflict makes current problems worse. "He urged people to look beyond their differences and explore ways to live together in peace and harmony." He insists that only sustained group action can fix the broken trust across the state.

Three experts joined the conversation. Dr. Homen Thangjam from Indira Gandhi National Tribal University provided insight. Dr. Feroja Syed from Dhanamanjuri University also presented. Dr. Ningombam Shreema from Nambol L. Sanoi College rounded out the panel. They analyzed the state's path since the 1949 takeover.
