Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh demanded peace and reconciliation on Sunday, October 18. He spoke to a crowd at the Catholic Valley Schools Sports and Literary Meet in Canchipur. The event, held at Catholic School in Imphal, operated under the theme Together for a Peaceful Manipur. Violence must end. Singh challenged church leaders, teachers, and students to restore harmony in the state's troubled hill districts.
Constant bandhs and blockades have derailed student progress. These disruptions hit daily wage earners and families hard. Singh noted that conflict sabotaged academic activities and destroyed local livelihoods. The Chief Minister pushed for unity to help the state keep pace with national development goals. He cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Viksit Bharat 2047 as a target for Manipur. We need to build a prosperous future.
Thirteen Catholic Valley schools sent representatives to the event. Dignitaries included MLA Karam Shyam Singh and Father Emanuel Kohli of Catholic School. The Chief Minister urged the crowd to abandon past grudges and focus on forgiveness. He stressed that collective effort remains the only way to rebuild trust. Moving forward requires mutual understanding from every community.
