Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh addressed the state on September 13, framing the ongoing peace process as delicate work. He compared the effort to "threading a needle through a torn cloth" while speaking at the 3rd Singjamei Constituency MLA Trophy chess tournament in Imphal. The government took power during a severe crisis, and Singh remains focused on stability.
Key transport links are finally improving. Road connectivity between Imphal and Guwahati via Dimapur is resuming after three years of disruption. Singh credited these gains to persistent negotiations with civil society groups and various stakeholders. He views the reopening of these supply lines as a vital move toward lasting peace. "We are all Manipuris. We have 36 communities, and we should never be apart," he told the crowd at the Service Recreation and Organisation of Youths campus.
The event honored Laitonjam Ranabir Singh, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indian Arm-Wrestling Federation. Several local officials attended, including Mayor L. Lokeshwar Singh and corporators Th. Bankimchandra and Th. Eliza Devi.
Earlier, the Chief Minister launched the 1st Singjamei Super League at Pishum Ground. The Chingamathak Young Learners Club hosted the tournament, which opened with a 5-1 win over Chongtham Leikai Social Welfare Organisation. Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh joined MLAs Rameshwar Meitei and Heikham Dingo at the matches.
