Modi Promises Full Support to Restore Manipur Peace

Shillong: Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh that the central government would provide all possible help to bring peace to the state. The two met Saturday at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi. Khemchand Singh updated the Prime Minister on ongoing efforts to bridge the trust gap between communities.

Khemchand Singh briefed the Prime Minister on the resumption of Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati bus services. He also reported that goods trucks now flow freely on the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway and the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway. The Chief Minister requested the conversion of state highways into national highways and asked to upgrade the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences to an AIIMS facility. He also extended an invitation for Modi to visit.

The Prime Minister noted that the situation in Manipur has improved. A spokesperson for the Chief Minister’s Office said, "The Prime Minister further assured that every reasonable issue concerning Manipur would be addressed, keeping in mind the aspirations of the people."

The Chief Minister has been in New Delhi since October 8. He previously met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Those ministers plan to visit the state soon. Inter-state bus travel between Manipur, Assam, and Nagaland resumed on August 21, marking the end of a three-year service gap.
