Amit Shah Expected in Manipur as Cabinet Celebrates Modi's 25-Year Milestone

Imphal: Union Home Minister Amit Shah plans to visit Manipur this October. The exact date remains unclear. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh confirmed the news at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal on October 6 following a Cabinet meeting. “The Union Home Minister is likely to visit Manipur in October, but the exact date is not known yet,” Khemchand told reporters.

State officials used the meeting to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public life. Government spokesperson Sapam Ranjan Singh lauded Modi as a visionary leader. The Cabinet passed a resolution thanking the Prime Minister for his lengthy service.

The government highlighted significant infrastructure wins. Projects include expanded railway connectivity and the creation of Churachandpur Medical College, the first of its kind in the hill districts. Officials also pointed to the 2023 peace deal with the UNLF-Pambei group and ongoing border fencing efforts along the India-Myanmar line.

Economic data took center stage. Singh noted India hit 7.4 per cent growth in 2025-26. Foreign reserves climbed from USD 312 billion in 2014 to roughly USD 786 billion by September 2026. The state cited national poverty reduction efforts, claiming 25 crore people escaped poverty. Welfare gains include free food for 80 crore citizens, 12 crore toilets, and 10 crore LPG connections. Infrastructure also expanded. The national highway network grew from 91,000 km to over 1.46 lakh km. Airport counts jumped from 74 to more than 160. The Inner Line Permit system remains a focal point for the administration.
