Imphal: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh handed out subsidies to 2,835 beneficiaries in Imphal this morning. The event at Yumnam Leikai Yumjao Lairembi Lampak coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday. This cash injection supports small, unorganised food-processing businesses across Manipur. The move helps these operations shift into the formal economy.
The central government released these funds earlier, and the Area Level Federation managed the final payout. Some beneficiaries took physical cheques at the venue. The rest received their money via Direct Benefit Transfer. Each Self Help Group member involved in food processing gets Rs. 5,000 as a first installment. Applicants filed their paperwork between 2022 and 2024.
The Chief Minister praised the Prime Minister for his work ethic. "Narendra Modi has been serving the country without taking a day off," he said. He highlighted that Manipur is moving past a rough patch caused by an unprecedented crisis. He pointed to the recent opening of roads through Kangpokpi as evidence of stability. Bonds between communities are strengthening. He urged residents to stop blocking roads and instead push for lasting peace.
