Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh wants the state to drop bandhs and blockades. He spoke today at the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, held at the Yaorang Sabal Community Hall in Patsoi Part IV, Imphal. The CM argued that such disruptions ruin the state economy and hurt daily wage earners.
Economic damage remains severe. Singh noted that a single day of bandh hits the state for 20 to 25 crore rupees. The conflict starting May 3, 2023, also triggered a drop in GST revenue exceeding 1,200 crore rupees. Peace is the only way forward. He urged citizens and civil society groups to build mutual trust to help Manipur grow.
The Chief Minister touted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public office, noting India's rise from the 11th to the fourth largest economy during his tenure. He pushed for support of the Viksit Bharat 2047 goal. "Peace, mutual trust and collective efforts are essential for Manipur to become an active participant in the country's development journey," Singh stated.
Government officials received strict orders to get schemes into the hands of the people. Over 30 service stalls and counters staffed by various departments handled direct public inquiries at the site. Attendees included Patsoi MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor (Keba) Singh, Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, and local representatives.
