Imphal: COCOMI Convenor YK Dhiren slammed the state government today for stalling on relief and housing for thousands of displaced families. Speaking at a press conference in Lamphel, Imphal, Dhiren demanded an immediate shift from empty promises to tangible results. The crisis began May 3, 2023, following attacks attributed to Chin-Kuki narco-terrorist groups against the Meitei community.
Thousands lost everything in the violence. Dhiren noted that despite repeated assurances from the Chief Minister, the administration has failed to launch significant new initiatives to help these victims. He pointed to the specific case of Dolaithabi, where displaced families remain stuck in temporary shelters even though new housing exists. The government must act.
Dhiren also highlighted that the crisis reached the Naga community, calling for systematic relief and resettlement efforts for all affected groups. He accused the state of ignoring the ongoing struggle of citizens living in limbo. "The government must move beyond assurances and take concrete action to address the hardships faced by displaced families," Dhiren said. He urged officials to prioritize the safety and dignity of everyone currently waiting for a permanent place to live.
