Imphal: The Manipur People's Party slammed the state government for ignoring requests for a meeting with the Governor and Chief Minister. Party spokesperson Dr. Seram Rojesh told reporters near Pologround that officials failed to respond to requests made over a week ago. This silence shows total disrespect to the oldest regional party in Manipur.
Rojesh demanded the immediate end of the Suspension of Operations agreement and the disarming of all groups involved. He cited the Supreme Court decision in the Salwa Judum case to argue that civilians should never carry weapons for security. The government must follow its own Assembly resolution to scrap the deal. "Civilians should not be allowed to possess weapons in the name of security," Rojesh said.
Confusion remains over the legal status of the pact. Union Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam claimed the agreement was not extended and effectively ended. Rojesh pushed back, asking why 13 designated camps still operate if the deal is dead.
The state faces a deep crisis. Thousands of people remain stuck in relief camps as the Ningol Chakkouba festival approaches. These families cannot return home. Rojesh accused the government of failing to protect citizen property and lives. He rejected official claims about free movement, pointing to constant insecurity and travel restrictions across Manipur.

The party delegation specifically sought this audience to raise alarm over the recent killing of civilians at Nongshum. Spokesperson Dr. Seram Rojesh noted that the party's push for the total shutdown of camps is directly tied to the violence in that area.
Rojesh also challenged the adequacy of recent security actions, specifically questioning whether the seizure of the Sinai camp is enough to prevent further bloodshed. He warned that as long as other designated camps remain operational, the risk of more attacks from those locations remains high.
