Imphal: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity, or COCOMI, is rallying the public. They want citizens to join a massive demonstration on October 31. The event aims to stop what organizers call a proxy war in the state. Various indigenous civil society groups are backing the effort to demand a shift in state security.
Convenor YK Dhiren took to the podium today. He urged the public to act. He says the current crisis demands a united front. The rally is a joint effort. It brings together the Joint Tribe Council Manipur, the Foothill Naga Co-ordination Committee, and the Naga Peoples’ Union in Imphal. The Inpui Naga Union and the Naga Humanitarian Aids Committee are also on board.
Protesters are pointing fingers at the Suspension of Operations agreement. This deal involves Kuki armed groups. Recent tensions at the Sinai Camp in Kangpokpi district forced the issue into the spotlight. Critics want to know if officials are enforcing the ground rules. They demand tougher action against those who break the agreement.
COCOMI warns that vague enforcement destroys public trust. They want transparent, firm accountability for all armed groups. The group stated that the current situation demands a united public response to the continuing security crisis and the alleged failure to ensure accountability for violations of the Suspension of Operations agreement. The rally serves as a call for indigenous communities to protect Manipur’s territorial integrity and force a change in how the state handles the ongoing conflict.
