Imphal: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) is pressuring the Government of India to cut ties with Myanmar-based armed groups. COCOMI alleges these militants are behind a surge of violence targeting indigenous communities. Tensions are boiling over in Kamjong district. Reports indicate militants burned houses and killed civilians in Namlee, Wanglee, Choro, and Pilong villages.
Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing claims the violence stems from aggression by the Myanmar-based KNA (B), stating, "The incidents involved armed aggression by cadres of the Myanmar-based KNA (B), who had allegedly crossed into Indian territory."
COCOMI leaders blasted the current border security strategy. They argue that state and central authorities failed to protect ancestral lands and local lives. The group specifically criticized existing counter-insurgency policies and the implementation of Suspension of Operations agreements. They claim these deals provide cover for illegal weapons supplies and logistical support to militants. The Assam Rifles now face intense scrutiny over their inability to stop these border incursions.
The committee demands immediate accountability for these attacks. They insist that the safety of vulnerable border populations must be the top priority for both state and central security forces.
