Imphal: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) is calling for an immediate end to attacks on locals by Myanmar-based militants. The committee claims the Indian government is shielding foreign insurgents under the guise of counterinsurgency. This inaction puts the public on edge. COCOMI alleges that New Delhi provides military and logistical support to these groups to suppress the indigenous population and seize their land.
The group points to the Suspension of Operations agreement as a shield for these militants. MLA Leishiyo Keishing previously identified the Kuki National Army (Burma), or KNA(B), as the force behind raids on Namlee, Wanglee, Choro, and Pilong. State police recently logged a case regarding an assault in Ningchou, officially classifying the event as an armed invasion by KNA(B). COCOMI reports that this specific confrontation left several foreign cadres dead.
Public trust in the Assam Rifles has bottomed out. Witnesses report seeing central security forces guarding foreign fighters while local villages burned to the ground. COCOMI claims the state government targets local volunteers who defend their own homes while turning a blind eye to the border crisis. The committee warned that the state and central authorities face the consequences of a total breakdown in order. As the committee stated, the "double-engine" government would be responsible if public anger over the situation led to a breakdown of law and order.
