COCOMI Demands Military Crackdown Following Deadly Manipur Attacks

Imphal: COCOMI is demanding an immediate military crackdown on armed groups. The group wants the government to scrap the Suspension of Operations agreement after three firewood collectors were killed near the Imphal East and Kangpokpi district boundary. The victims died near Nongshum and Khongbal Thangkhul.

COCOMI convenor YK Dhiren blamed Kuki militants under the SoO pact for the murders. He questioned how gunmen could strike with Central security forces, including the Assam Rifles, stationed nearby. Dhiren challenged government claims that Manipur is now safe for free movement.

He told reporters in Imphal: "The government must be held accountable for failing to ensure the safety of citizens." Dhiren insisted that the state ignore empty promises and instead disarm these violent groups. He warned that public frustration is rising and residents may soon defend themselves.

The committee also highlighted a separate surge of violence at a Khangabok musical program on Sunday evening. Laishram Rakesh died during those clashes. COCOMI points to both incidents as clear evidence that civilian safety remains under constant threat.
