Agartala: The Election Commission of India has hit the brakes on the Special Intensive Revision of Tripura’s electoral rolls. The move pushes the final publication date from February 15, 2027, to April 7, 2027. Officials confirmed the shift clears the deck for upcoming elections to the state’s 21 urban local bodies, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation.

While the January 1, 2027, qualifying date remains locked, the rest of the calendar is shifting. Preparations and printing move to December 15 through December 24, 2026. House-to-house checks by Booth Level Officers now run from December 26, 2026, to January 25, 2027. Polling station rationalization is now set for January 27, 2027.

The draft electoral roll drops on February 1, 2027. Residents have until March 2 to file claims and objections, with final disposal of these issues lasting until April 1, 2027. The state election commission will likely drop the official poll schedule on October 30.

State Election Commissioner P.K. Chakraborty noted the terms for current bodies expire on December 9, forcing the commission to act fast. He added, "The election process is already underway, and several preparatory activities have been completed. We are all set to conduct the elections on time."

Returning officers head into final training sessions this Thursday. Trainers are drilling staff on election management and legal guidelines to ensure voting runs without a hitch. All eyes are now on the official announcement expected tomorrow.
