Agartala: Tripura Police busted an interstate drug smuggling ring late Wednesday night. They seized dry cannabis valued at Rs 50 lakh from a Bolero pickup truck at the Jherjheri naka point in North Tripura. The operation followed a tip-off.
Sub-Inspector Manoj Pal of the Kadamtala police station led the interception. Authorities brought in senior officers, a Deputy Collector and Magistrate, and a forensic team to assist. They discovered a hidden compartment built into the vehicle frame. The team recovered 17 packets of varying sizes from the stash.
Police arrested the driver, 29-year-old Kishan Ghosh of East Pratapgarh, Agartala. Ghosh admitted the shipment was loaded near the Khayerpur bypass and bound for Assam. Sub-Inspector Manoj Pal confirmed the street value of the haul, stating, "the seized contraband was estimated to be worth around Rs 50 lakh in the illicit market."
