Agartala: Chief Minister Manik Saha opens the Agartala Tea Auction Centre on October 29. The facility sits at the Pandit Nehru Complex. It aims to cut logistics costs for the state's 54 tea gardens while helping growers fetch better prices. Tripura currently produces 90 lakh kg of finished tea every year.

Samir Kumar Ghosh, chairman of the Tripura Tea Development Corporation, says the center answers a major industry request. "The facility would offer fresh opportunities to tea planters and help streamline the marketing of locally produced tea," Ghosh stated. This addition puts Tripura in the same league as Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.

Saha laid the project's foundation in March 2024 following approval from NITI Aayog. The center provides a structured marketplace for direct trading. TTDC Managing Director Rajesh Kumar Das confirmed that electronic auctions will run every Monday. Officials report that eight buyers, nine sellers, and three brokers have registered for the launch.
