Aizawl: Mizoram police hauled in more than Rs 14 crore in illegal drugs between Monday and Wednesday. Officers conducted anti-narcotics sweeps across Champhai, Saitual, and Kolasib districts. They arrested six people, including five Myanmar nationals. The busts also netted 3.36 tonnes of suspected smuggled dry areca nuts.
In Champhai, officers stopped a cab at the Khankawn checkpost on Wednesday. They found 994 grams of methamphetamine worth Rs 79.52 lakh. Police arrested the passenger, 39-year-old Myanmar national Hrang Thawm Hnim. Later that day at the same post, cops pulled over two more Myanmar nationals headed for Aizawl. They carried 141 grams of heroin valued at Rs 28.20 lakh. Police also intercepted a truck hauling 42 bags of dry areca nuts. The driver lacked a valid trade licence or transport permit. Authorities stated the load was "suspected to have been smuggled from Myanmar."
Saitual district saw another major win on Tuesday. Police at a Keifang checkpoint seized 12.746 kg of methamphetamine. The stash holds a market value of roughly Rs 10.20 crore. Officers arrested the two Myanmar nationals involved. Meanwhile, in Kolasib district on Monday, authorities stopped a vehicle bound for Karimganj, Assam. They discovered 3.910 kg of methamphetamine worth Rs 3.2 crore. Police arrested 23-year-old Karimganj resident Guljar Hussain. These operations target drug routes connecting the border to Assam.
