Assam Police Arrest Six in Dual Anti-Drug Operations

Guwahati: Assam police launched a double strike against regional narcotics networks Saturday. Officers in Dima Hasao seized 220.6 grams of suspected heroin at New Haflong Railway Station. Three suspects arrived from Silchar before they attempted to board a train headed for Guwahati. Intelligence agents monitored the group until the arrests occurred.

Police found the drugs hidden inside 18 modified plastic soap cases. Officers also confiscated three mobile phones from the detainees. Officials described the seizure as a significant success in the ongoing drive against drug trafficking in the Northeast, noting that they are actively working to "dismantle narcotics networks operating in the region." Authorities have filed charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Meanwhile, the East Guwahati Police District team raided a hideout in Beharbari to interrupt a separate distribution chain. Officers arrested three women identified as 35-year-old Jamile Khatun, 32-year-old Asatun Begum, and 34-year-old Safina Khatun. They seized 4 kilograms of ganja during the bust.

The women remain in custody as investigators track the source of the marijuana. Legal proceedings against the trio are moving forward under the same NDPS laws used in the Dima Hasao case. Police continue to interrogate all six suspects to map out the broader trafficking connections across the state.
