Guwahati: Assam law enforcement notched two major wins against regional drug traffickers this week. Nagaon Police cornered two suspects in Bhakatgaon, while Dhubri officers dismantled a pharmaceutical narcotics ring.
Nagaon police tracked Din Islam and Hussain Ali as they attempted to move drugs in a Swift car. The suspects tried to bolt when spotted, with one man diving into a pond to avoid capture. Officers searched the car, bearing registration AS09G6527, and recovered 66 grams of heroin. Investigators are now tracing the source of the stash.
In a separate Sunday operation, the Dhubri District Crime Unit intercepted a scooter at Madrasa More. Led by Additional Superintendent Dr. Anup Jyoti Borah, police stopped Rafikul Islam, 46, and found 40 bottles of illicit cough syrup. The arrest quickly led police to a local pharmacy.
Officers raided Irshad Medical in Jhagrarpar Pt-III and handcuffed owner Shahidul Hoque, 44. The search turned up 1,480 Nitror-10 tablets, 160 Pyeevon Spac tablets, and 75 additional bottles of cough syrup. Police also seized 8,200 rupees in cash along with personal documents. All four men remain in custody. Officer-in-Charge Pritam Das said, "Both accused have been taken into police custody as further legal proceedings are initiated under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act."
