Imphal: More than 200 delegates arrived in Manipur to study the state's rich social realities and cultural heritage. The Ashtalakshmi Darshan Youth Exchange Programme brought the group together to experience the diversity of Manipur's 34 tribes. This marks the third time the National Institute of Technology Manipur has hosted the event. The institute ran the program alongside the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy.
The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region backed the project with funding from the North Eastern Council. Prof. Khumukcham Tomba Singh, Registrar of NIT Manipur, spoke to participants about the strength found in the state's various languages, traditions, and arts. The program aims to tighten national integration and create emotional bonds between the northeast and the rest of the country.
Delegates toured sites across the region. They visited Lok Bhavan, the Manipur Zoological Garden, Ima Keithel, Andro, the Khongjom War Memorial, the Marjing Polo Complex, and Kakching. The group also held meetings with the Deputy Commissioners of Thoubal and Kakching. The dance academy hosted cultural shows featuring traditional Manipuri dances.
Ng. Nongyai Singh served as the chief guest for the proceedings. He spoke on the issues currently affecting the Northeast. He stated, "The need for development and peace" must remain a priority for the region. The visiting delegates praised the local people, describing them as welcoming and peace-loving.
