Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh demanded a return to order on August 15. He addressed the state during the 80th Independence Day ceremony at the First Manipur Rifles Ground in Imphal. He hoisted the national flag and called for unity. The state needs trust and harmony.
Khemchand acknowledged the ongoing friction between communities. The federal government is currently in talks with various groups to stabilize the region. Violence remains a stubborn barrier to progress. The Chief Minister pointed to the Friday attack at Langka Naga village in Kangpokpi district as a major blow to these efforts. Two people died in that ambush, and two others suffered injuries. He promised that the authorities will catch the perpetrators.
The region has suffered through ethnic violence since May 2023. Thousands of families lost their homes. Many lives were cut short. Khemchand insisted that current development goals depend on ending the bloodshed. "The path of development for Manipur is through peace. Peace is most important for development," he said.
His administration claims to prioritize youth employment, women's empowerment, and support for local farmers. They also want to boost manufacturing and preserve local heritage. Khemchand wants the state to mirror India’s broader economic gains. Peace is the first step.
