Imphal: The Meitei Alliance wants the Suspension of Operations pact gone. This tripartite agreement currently covers various Kuki armed groups in Manipur. The group filed a formal petition with the Joint Monitoring Group to scrap the deal if investigations prove ground rule violations. It is a necessary step.
The Kuki National Organisation and United People's Front tried to wave off claims about camp desertions and violence. The Meitei Alliance, a transnational body focused on Manipur territorial integrity, isn't buying it. They said, "The JMG must focus on whether cadres left designated camps, carried weapons into conflict zones or engaged in direct violence."
Accountability is the main goal. The Alliance demands public disclosure of all monitoring reports and investigative findings based on the updated 2025 ground rules. They want specific punitive actions taken against those who broke the law. Crimes like murder, extortion, abduction, and attacks on security personnel must face prosecution under standard Indian law.
If inquiries reveal that factions crossed the line into terrorism, the central government must invoke appropriate legal provisions. The Alliance also shot down any talk of partition. They argued that current demographic shifts or segregation caused by recent conflict should never lead to a separate Union Territory. Political concessions are off the table. The ceasefire terms must protect the unity of Manipur, not turn temporary violence into permanent borders.
