Imphal: Security forces swept through Manipur, dragging nine insurgents from their hideouts. Between August 9 and 16, joint teams of Assam Rifles and state police commandos hit targets in Thoubal, Kakching, and Churachandpur districts. The dragnet pulled in active members from the People’s Liberation Army, Revolutionary People’s Front, United People’s Party of Kangleipak, and United Kuki National Army.
Raids turned up a massive stockpile of hardware. Soldiers seized one AK-47, a .303 light machine gun, three INSAS rifles, four single-barrel guns, and two 9mm pistols. They also pulled 2,156 live rounds of various calibres from the stash, alongside 29 magazines and 157 empty casings. The search yielded 1.5 kilograms of commercial plastic explosive and 14 detonators, plus communication gear used by the militant groups.
A defence wing statement noted the operations exposed extortion networks and secret monitoring activities used by these groups. "The latest operations underline continued coordination between the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in targeting insurgent networks and recovering illegal arms and explosives across the state," the statement said. Officers processed the nine suspects and the recovered gear at police stations in Kakching, Sugnu, Thoubal, Waikhong, Hiyanglam, Wangoo, and Arong for further legal action.
