Imphal: Manipur Police and security forces locked up two insurgent cadres and a suspected drug runner over two days of intense operations. Officers acted on intelligence to clear the streets of illegal weapons and narcotics. The arrests spanned Imphal West and Senapati districts.
Security forces caught Alal Uddin, 33, at the T-Khullen checkpoint on National Highway-2 near the Nagaland border. The arrest happened Thursday. A joint team from the Special Operation Team of Senapati Police, the Central Reserve Police Force, and the Assam Rifles stopped his white Mahindra Bolero, registration NL07CC-2510. The vehicle featured a VIP flagpost. Officers pulled 1.12 kg of suspected heroin from a hidden compartment under the clutch. The drugs carry an estimated value of Rs 1.1 crore on the international market. Police also seized his two mobile phones, a voter identity card, and Rs 5,000 in cash.
Earlier, on July 30, police apprehended Mangkhom Keshokumar Singh, 45, known as Ibungo. He is a Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup cadre from Kongba Makha Nandeibam Leikai. They caught him near the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal West. Officials allege he spent his time on extortion rackets.
Another militant fell on July 29. Security forces raided a home at Thangmeiband Polem Leikai in Imphal West. They arrested Leishangthem Lamnganba Singh, 23, also known as Nungsiba or Naoba. He is a cadre for the KCP Nongdrenkhomba faction. Regarding the ongoing efforts to maintain order, a police spokesperson stated: "Further investigation into all three cases is underway." Authorities continue to process the evidence gathered across all three scenes.
