Imphal: Manipur security forces caught two active insurgents in separate raids on October 8. These operations targeted members linked to outlawed groups operating in Imphal East and Imphal West. Forces acted on intelligence reports regarding ongoing extortion schemes and militant shelters.
A joint unit from the Criminal Investigation Department and local security forces moved into Chingarel Tejpur under the Lamlai police station. They arrested 34-year-old Haorongbam Lukhoi Singh, known as Solendro. Police identified him as an active cadre for the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak. Officials claim he hid militants and pressured the public for cash to bankroll the outfit's operations.
Hours later, a second team involving the Criminal Investigation Department and Central security forces struck in Imphal West. They apprehended 46-year-old Chanambam Tomba Singh, alias Francish and Angou, near Taothong Lamkhai. He belongs to the Kangleipak Communist Party-PWG. Authorities suspect him of running a broad extortion racket. He allegedly targeted shops in "Singjamei, Canchipur, Kakwa, Mantripukhri and the RIMS Road area." The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
