Imphal: Manipur Police launched a series of raids on July 23, nabbing three militants, a drug suspect, and a CBI-wanted fugitive. The operations spanned multiple districts as authorities clamped down on insurgent activity and crime.
Officers detained T.H. Kaoni, a proclaimed offender sought by the CBI Patna unit. He faces charges for using forged legal documents. A Special Judicial Magistrate in Patna had issued a non-bailable warrant after Kaoni dodged his trial. Police handed him to the Anti-Corruption Branch in Imphal. "Manipur Police on July 23 detained a proclaimed offender wanted in a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case and arrested two active militants linked to separate insurgent outfits in operations carried out across the state."
Security forces also caught active militants in the field. They arrested S. Palal Kuki, also known as Lalboi Singson, in Molnom. As the finance head for the United Kuki National Army, he allegedly participated in extortion and firing incidents. In Imphal East, police picked up Gurumayum Khugamani Sharma, a 37-year-old Kangleipak Communist Party cadre known as Nanao or Bamon. He was arrested on Wangkhei Ayangpali Road for alleged extortion.
Bishnupur police booked Mayanglambam Tomba Singh, 39, a KYKL cadre found at the Tera Urak checkpoint. Officers seized a 9 mm pistol and 11 live rounds from him. He is linked to a petrol pump explosion in Moirang. In a separate push against narcotics, police arrested 30-year-old Leila in Lilong. They seized 389 grams of suspected heroin hidden in 10 soap cases.
