Imphal: Manipur Police arrested 56-year-old Zenngaihniang on July 24 for her role in a cross-border drug trafficking network. The arrest occurred at the Churachandpur Police Station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Officers raided her home in Gouchinkhup Veng, New Lamka, and recovered 2,878,400 rupees in cash. The money is suspected to be drug proceeds.
Zenngaihniang allegedly funneled massive payments to contacts in Myanmar. She was caught with five cash registers and a machine for counting currency. The state police department stated, "The arrested woman was allegedly involved in transferring large sums of money to suspected beneficiaries of the illegal drug trade operating in Myanmar."
Authorities also recovered a stolen Mahindra Bolero with license plate AR-28-0126 from Churachandpur town in a follow-up operation. Separate security efforts yielded a massive weapons cache in Imphal West. This seizure included 12 pistols, four rifles, two modified .303 rifles, and four bolt-action single-barrel guns. Police also found four hand grenades, including one of Chinese origin, plus three detonators and various military gear.
In Kakching district, officers nabbed 19-year-old Moirangthem Gandhi, a member of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup. Prior to these events, forces arrested Tinnei Thadou on July 22 for possessing 1.6 kilograms of brown sugar. The region remains a flashpoint. Investigators continue to map the financial links behind the narcotics racket.
