Guwahati: Lakhimpur Police locked up 25 people this week. The arrests started early Monday during a coordinated strike against drug trafficking. Officers fanned out across the district to hit known peddling hotspots.

A raid at No. 2 Ahmedpur under Bihpuria Police Station netted 12.23 grams of suspected heroin. Police cuffed Wasim Akram, Aminul Islam, Nizamuddin Ahmed, Mohd. Ali, and Mohd. Abduz Ali at the scene.

Four more suspects fell in the Harmutty area. Laluk Police Station officers arrested Ruhul Amin, Deepak Biswas, Sabdul Ali, and Raju Khan for allegedly selling prohibited substances. Meanwhile, North Lakhimpur Police picked up Ganesh Bora and Gopoiram Borah in Bodhakora for possession of ganja.

Other arrests occurred throughout the district, though police withheld specific details on those remaining cases. The department remains focused on cutting off supply lines and ending local substance abuse.

Lakhimpur Senior Superintendent of Police Gunendra Deka vowed to keep the pressure on traffickers. "We will take stringent measures within the legal framework against anyone involved in drug peddling, whoever he or she may be," SSP Deka said.
