Guwahati: Assam police launched a massive crackdown on drug trafficking, seizing over 90,000 Yaba tablets in three separate operations. The drugs hold a street value of nearly Rs 8 crore. Officers are now hunting the ringleaders behind these regional pipelines.

In Sribhumi, police stopped an unregistered Maruti Eeco van at Channighat. Inside, they found 80,000 tablets stashed within 240 soap boxes. Officers arrested Enam Hossain, Shamim Uddin, and Altaf Hossain at the scene. Ramkrishnanagar SDPO Anshul Sharma led the raid. Investigators believe the haul originated in Mizoram and targeted the well-known Vetarbond-Cheragi Ranpur transit corridor. Police noted, "The interrogation of the arrested individuals is underway to identify the alleged kingpin of the network."

Further west, Cachar police executed a midnight raid in the Malakar Patti area of Silchar. Acting on an intelligence tip from July 14, officers swarmed the location at 1:30 am on July 15. They detained Tamiz Uddin Laskar and Asadul Islam after finding 10,000 tablets in their possession. These 1,094 grams of narcotics will undergo forensic testing as the investigation proceeds.

Meanwhile, a joint team from the Special Operations Group, West Guwahati Police, and Gorchuk station caught 47-year-old Maharam Ali. The Boko resident had 1,000 tablets weighing 105 grams on his person. Authorities have processed all suspects under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The seized vehicles and contraband remain in police custody as teams track financial links to the broader trafficking syndicate.
