Guwahati: Basistha police took two women into custody for drug dealing. An East Guwahati Police District team caught the pair after receiving specific intelligence reports. They found 15 grams of heroin and two smartphones on the suspects.
Officers identified the women as Basanti Basumatary, also known as Ketep, Boro Buri, or Rabha Buri, from Them Marwet in Ri Bhoi, Meghalaya, and Momina Begum, also known as Gedi or Bai, from Radha Nagar. The operation followed strict legal protocols. The police team confirmed the tip-offs and secured legal permission before moving in.
The suspects allegedly used the cover of darkness to hawk their supply. They exploited legal restrictions under Section 43(5) of the BNSS to avoid detection. Police seized all items found during the sweep. Investigators are now working to identify wider connections in the drug trade. Authorities noted, "The arrested accused are being subjected to further legal proceedings, while police are continuing their investigation into their alleged involvement in the drug trade and possible links with other individuals."
