Police Bust Drug Traffickers in Silchar and Guwahati

Guwahati: Cachar Police seized 10,000 Yaba tablets in a midnight raid in Silchar. Officers acted on a tip received July 14 about two men moving drugs through the city. Police moved into the Malakar Patti area of Kalibari Char at 1:30 am on July 15. They arrested 28-year-old Tamiz Uddin Laskar of Berenga Part-II and 29-year-old Asadul Islam of Batamari. The contraband weighed 1,094 grams. Officers processed the items under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in front of independent witnesses.

Police will send the tablets to a forensic lab. Investigations continue to find other members of the trafficking network. A police official stated, "Legal proceedings have been initiated under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act."

Meanwhile, the West Guwahati Police District arrested two men in a separate operation at Katabari. Officers from the Gorchuk Police Station picked up 35-year-old Jintu Mandal and 19-year-old Azan Ahmed. The haul included nine vials of heroin weighing 10.54 grams. Police also confiscated 5,680 rupees in cash and a motorcycle, registration number AS01DS9801. Both men face charges under the NDPS Act as authorities track wider links to the drug trade.
