Guwahati: Assam Police stepped up operations against crime across the state this week. A Central Guwahati Police District team from Pan Bazar Police Station arrested Uday Das, a resident of Lankeswar, for peddling narcotics. Officers found him carrying a tobacco can filled with 7.94 grams of heroin. They also seized five empty vials during the arrest. Investigators are now working to track the source of the drugs and potential ties to larger distribution networks.
Separately, police raided Hotel Star Inn in Sijubari, Hatigaon. Locals alerted authorities after noticing suspicious behavior from guests staying at the property. Officers detained three guests suspected of cybercrime. They also brought in the hotel manager and several staff members for questioning. Police said, "Further details are awaited as the investigation continues." Authorities remain focused on disrupting local supply chains and preventing illegal activities from taking root in the city.

In a separate operation near Lekhapani, the 20 Assam Rifles teamed up with state police to intercept a massive heroin shipment. Acting on a tip about a drop-off at Namphai Jioni Chora on September 3, security forces cordoned the area and nabbed a suspect around 9 PM. The bust hauled in 125.14 grams of Heroin No. 4, valued at roughly Rs 93.8 lakh. Officers also recovered Rs 13,000 in cash and a mobile phone. The suspect admitted the drugs were bound for a local dealer, and the case now sits with the Lekhapani Police Station.

In a separate strike against border smuggling, officers at the Dighorkhal Check Post in Kalain intercepted a vehicle bound for Guwahati. Police tore into a secret compartment to pull out 1.20 lakh Burmese cigarettes. They booked two men from Uttar Pradesh, identified as Rashid and Faizan, for the haul. Investigators are now checking if the pair links into a wider syndicate running contraband through the region.
