Guwahati: Assam Police smashed two drug trafficking rings this week. They seized a massive haul of Yaba tablets worth nearly Rs 8 crore in Sribhumi district. The crackdown continued in Guwahati with another seizure of 1,000 tablets. The operations highlight a growing struggle against narcotics moving through state corridors.
In Sribhumi, officers acted on intelligence at Channighat under the Ramkrishnanagar Police Station. They stopped an unregistered Maruti Eeco van and found 80,000 tablets hidden inside 240 soap boxes. Investigators believe the drugs arrived from Mizoram. Ramkrishnanagar SDPO Anshul Sharma led the raid alongside Officer-in-Charge Priyabrata Sharma and intelligence wing staff.
Police arrested three men: Enam Hossain, Shamim Uddin, and Altaf Hossain. They now face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Officials are hunting for the network kingpin. Police noted that the Vetarbond-Cheragi Ranpur route has appeared in several previous trafficking cases. One official stated, "Interrogation of the arrested individuals is underway to identify the alleged kingpin of the network, trace the suppliers, and determine the intended destination of the narcotics."
Separately, a joint team from the Special Operations Group, West Guwahati Police District, and Gorchuk Police Station struck in Guwahati. They captured 47-year-old Maharam Ali from Boko. Officers recovered 1,000 tablets weighing 105 grams from his possession. Ali remains in custody while detectives work to map his connection to the broader trafficking syndicate.
