Assam Rifles Seize Rs 27 Crore in Narcotics in Manipur

Shillong: Assam Rifles troops under the Army Spear Corps stopped a boat in Jiribam, Manipur, on Friday. They apprehended six people during the raid. The joint operation with Manipur Police and local agencies netted 90,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 27 crore and 48 grams of heroin valued at Rs 28.80 lakh. The Spear Corps confirmed the seizure on X.

The unit posted: "Strengthening the fight against narcotics, Assam Rifles under Spear Corps, in a joint operation with state police, intercepted a boat carrying contraband at Jiribam, Manipur." This strike targets trafficking networks under the Nasha Mukt Bharat plan. Assam Rifles guards the Myanmar border and runs counter-insurgency missions.

Yaba is a mix of methamphetamine and caffeine. It is often called crazy medicine. The drug enters India through porous borders. Dealers move it from northeastern states to other regions. Some smugglers even try to push the product into Bangladesh via West Bengal. Security agencies report clear ties between this drug trade and terrorism.
