Shillong: The Khasi Jaiñtia Welfare Association opened its year-long golden jubilee in Shillong this Thursday. The group hits 50 years since its 1977 start. The Mission Dorbar Hall hosted the event. KJWA vice-president Dr. Khlur Mukhim chaired the meeting while Rev. RG Laloo served as the chief guest.
Laloo praised the association for its community work. He challenged the members to keep serving the public. The guest also released the Meghalaya GK Reckoner, a new book compiled by the organization. Iaitreilang Warjri performed a song for the attendees.
"The association for its contribution to society and encouraged its members to continue with its spirit of service," Laloo stated. The program honored the founders who built the group over five decades. They recognized (L) Rev. T. Rodborne, (L) Fr. S. Sngi Lyngdoh, (L) MR Allya, (L) Paiem Olim Sing Syiem, and Prof. Helen Giri.
Speakers held lectures to honor the four deceased founders. The group plans a full year of events to mark the anniversary. General secretary Dr. AW Rani delivered the closing vote of thanks. The leadership asked for continued public support throughout the coming months.
