Shillong: Dilip Ghosh, West Bengal's minister for Panchayat Affairs and Rural Development, claims Mamata Banerjee is in New Delhi to save her political career. Ghosh, a former national vice-president for the BJP, argues the former Chief Minister lacks support at home. He says she is desperate for attention. The Trinamool Congress lost significant ground in recent bypolls for two Assembly seats. The party’s combined vote share sat below three percent. Ghosh suggests her irrelevance is absolute.
The BJP leader took his mockery further during a Sunday media briefing. He suggested Banerjee should head to Bangladesh to join protests there if she truly wants to stay busy. Ghosh also slammed the Cockroach Janata Party's protest in New Delhi. The group demands the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Banerjee supports this movement, but Ghosh views it as a conspiracy. "There is foreign funding behind this movement. A conspiracy by the anti-national forces is behind this movement," Ghosh stated.
Other BJP figures joined the pile-on. Rajya Sabha member Samik Bhattacharya targeted the alliance on Saturday. He described the participants as a half-dead force clinging to a dead force. He questioned why Banerjee left West Bengal during the Mahalaya festival. He noted that leaders should be visiting puja pandals at home instead of chasing headlines in the capital.
